Thinking like an Architect
We have been exploring different buildings and structures from around the world. We had a chance to recreate some well-known buildings and structures, like the Big Ben, the Arc de Triomphe, Stonehedge, and Saint Basil's Cathedral, using 2D shapes and 3D objects. After building, we shared what 2D shapes and 3D objects we used to recreate our buildings and structures.
We continued to apply our architectural thinking and looked at the parts of a house. After learning about the different parts, we were challenged to listen carefully and identify the parts of a house by matching the picture to the word and then colouring in the parts using specific colours, like "colour in the chimney orange".
The teacher had the key and we had to listen very carefully.

Listening Challenge #2 |
We continued to look at houses from around the world. We learned about the different parts of an igloo. We were challenged to identify an igloo from a group of houses. Then make a plan and design our igloo. We are currently making tiny igloos out of sugar cubes.
Forming Sentences Using Rules of English
We are practicing forming sentences using rules of English. We were each given photo cards showing either a person or group of people doing some kind of action. We had to figure out which sentence starter to use to describe our photo by saying, "He is . or She is . or They are ". Then we identified and stated the action word. Some of us challenged ourselves by identifying the place in the picture.
Examples of Sentences:
She is smelling a flower.
He is swimming in a pool.
They are shopping at the grocery store.
We continued using our drama skills to practice forming sentences. We created skits with either a partner or by ourselves. We had to guess the action and say "He is . or She is . or They are ."

We have also been using 'Story Cubes' to help us practice. First, we roll the dice and must choose an action to show in our skit. The audience must guess which action we chose. We start by saying, "He is . or She is . or They are ."

Common Phrases and Materials in the Classroom
We continued practicing the names for materials in the classroom and how to politely ask our classmates to borrow one of the items. We played a game we like to call "May I please borrow your...". Below is what we must say to each other.
In order to 'borrow' an item, we must say...
Person 1
"May I please borrow your ______?"
Gesture: smiling and eye contact
Person 2
"Yes you may."
Gesture: smiling and eye contact, and passing the item to the person requesting the item
Person 1

Colours and 2-D Shapes/3-D Objects
We have been learning the names for various colours using a variety of materials. We played a colour sorting game using toy fruits. First, we identified the colours of the different fruits and placed them in their matching coloured baskets. Then, we had to listen carefully for the colour of the fruit and which coloured basket to place them in. For example, we placed red coloured fruits into the the orange basket. We will continue practicing the names of colours in different and exciting ways.
We have also been learning the names for various 2-D shapes. First, we identified the shapes and counted the number of sides/points or no points/sides that each 2-D shape had. Then, we used wax sticks to recreate the shapes. We will continue practicing learning the names of 2-D shapes through different ways. We will also learn the names of different 3-D objects. Stayed tuned for more!

I enjoyed looking at all the ways you are learning new words. Which activity was your favorite? I love your work on structures. Have you been to the new Peace Bridge yet?
