Thinking like Canadian Explorers

We have been reading and discussing the animated and interactive webcomic of two young explorers during the North American fur trade. This fictional story helped us understand the challenges and difficulties of life during this period.

Forming Sentences Using Rules of English

We started looking at the National Geographic Photo of the Day. We had a chance to share our ideas using rules of English. We were given different discussion prompts and sentence starters to guide our ideas We will continue looking at the Photo of the Day and other interesting artifacts to develop our language listening and speaking skills.

Story Cubes

We have also been using 'Story Cubes' to help us practice. We began by using a sentence starter, like "On my way to school, I encountered      ". Each player takes one die and must roll the die to figure out what they will be adding to the story. Sometimes our stories can get very interesting.

Example of a story:
On my may to school, I encountered dinosaur bone
and a map that led me to a circus full of giants.

  1. I enjoyed looking at all the ways you are learning new words. Which activity was your favorite? What activity helped you the most with English?
